Dental Implants

What is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge.

If you’ve lost a tooth due to periodontal disease, injury or any other reason, a dental implant may be needed. They are the closest option to a natural tooth, and they also eliminate the need to place a crown on healthy teeth, or to wear a removable appliance – which can, at times, be uncomfortable.

Once it’s determined that a dental implant is a necessary, we refer you to an oral surgeon in the area, who will be responsible for placing the implant. After the implant is placed, you will wait approximately 3 months then return to the surgeon, who will conduct a torque test to make sure the implant has healed properly in the jaw bone. Following the completion of this step, you will return to our office and begin the process of applying a porcelain crown to the top of the implant.
